TITLE: Inpatient Dietitian

Summary:

  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to and nutrition assessment of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients through documentation in the medical record.

  • Assess the nutritional status through screening, presence of malnutrition through the Malnutrition Screening Tool, malnutrition diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring to improve nutrition status, lower medical cost, and reduce length of stay.

  • Utilizes physician/referring practitioner-driven protocols or other facility-specific processes to implement, initiate or modify orders for diet or nutrition-related actions (ex: nutrition supplements, dietary supplements, diet modifications, diet texture modifications for dentition or individual preferences, nutrition-related laboratory tests and medications, and nutrition education and counseling).

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a school accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE). Registered Dietician (Commission on Dietetic Registration) and licensed as a Certified Dietitian - Nutritionist in New York State within two months of hire.

  • Preferred qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare as a Registered Dietitian. Master’s Degree with preferred area of Nutrition or related field.

  • Board Certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician or other certifications in Pediatrics or Adult Nutrition.

  • Documents interactions with patients in patient education records according to the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognition standards.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare as a RD preferably with counseling experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. State Licensure: Certified Dietitian-Nutritionists in New York State on hire or within 6 months of hire required. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).

  • Master’s Degree with preferred area of Nutrition or related field. Board Certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician or other certifications in Pediatrics or Adult Nutrition: Board Certification as a Specialty in Pediatric Nutrition, Weight Management and Obesity, Oncology Nutrition or Renal Nutrition.

The Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center is accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The outpatient clinic provides opportunities where you can accelerate your knowledge of weight management and weight loss surgery counseling with patients looking to improve their lives though surgical or non-surgical weight loss. The Outpatient Dietitian preforms a variety of specialized duties related to nutrition counseling of patients with MNT through our Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program at Upstate Community Hospital.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare as a RD preferably with counseling experience. RD with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Certified Dietitian-Nutritionists in New York State on hire or within 6 months of hire required.

  • Master’s Degree with preferred area of Nutrition or related field. Board Certification in Weight Management and Obesity or other Board Certifications preferred.

Monday - Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm (clinic closed on weekends and holidays).
